Ep. 21: Dr. Ana Maria Moreno of Navega Therapeutics

In our most recent episode, Bob and David invited Ana Maria Moreno, CEO and Founder of Navega Therapeutics, Inc., into the podcast studio. Navega is a San Diego-based company developing innovative gene therapies for chronic pain and other conditions.

Ana received her bachelor's degree in Biosystems Engineering from the University of Arizona, focusing on biosensors. She went on to earn her master's and doctorate degrees in Bioengineering from the University of California San Diego, where she researched gene editing via CRISPR-Cas9 platforms. During her PhD, she developed the platform that enables Navega's innovative approach. She founded Navega Therapeutics in 2018 while still a PhD student at UCSD.

Recently, Dr. Moreno, was honored as one of the winners of the ninth annual Life Science Catalyst Awards by Biocom California. This prestigious recognition highlights her position as a rising leader in the field, acknowledging her potential for even greater influence in the future. Well done, Ana!

In the podcast, Dr. Moreno takes us through her journey from scientist to CEO, how she got started on her Ph.D. research program in developing a platform to enable epigenetic regulation with CRISPR /dead Cas9, as well as highlights why Navega is differentiated from other approaches in the marketplace. Ana and her team are raising a $40 million Series A financing round for further development of their preclinical candidates to get into the clinic with a focus on chronic pain and bringing their second program into IND stage for rheumatoid arthritis.
