In our most recent episode, Bob and David invited Lu Yin, Ph.D., CEO of Persperion Diagnostics, into the podcast studio. Persperion is a company at the forefront of diagnostic innovations, and under the leadership of Dr. Lu Yin, is focused on developing innovative non-invasive diagnostic technologies, particularly utilizing sweat to measure biomarkers.

The company emanated their technology from research conducted at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). The technology was developed in the nanoengineering lab of Professor Dr. Joseph Wang at UCSD. This lab is renowned for its work in developing innovative sensor technologies. Their flagship technology is a touch-based sensor that detects glucose levels through natural fingertip perspiration. This innovation aims to provide a pain-free and cost-effective alternative to traditional glucose monitoring methods like finger pricks, addressing a major need in diabetes management.

Persperion's sweat sensor technology is designed to be practical and scalable, capable of measuring not just glucose but also other biomarkers such as hormones, metabolites, and drugs. The company is actively testing the feasibility of their device through trials at UCSD, working on improving accuracy and expanding the technology’s applications​. While the company is still in the early stages of development, they have already secured seed funding and are moving toward collecting clinical trial data in support of regulatory diagnostic filings. They are preparing for an additional capital financing of $4MM to support their advancement and their work has gained attention for its potential to transform diagnostic methods, especially in providing early and personalized healthcare solutions​.
